This is the number one question I get asked the most….
If you’re seeking a home-based customer service job, AlpineAccess.com is worth checking out. Alpine Access is an older virtual call center company that’s been around since 1998. Currently, they hire phone agents in 40 states in the US and now they’re also hiring in Canada.
Alpine Access, although smaller than well known work at home companies like West At Home and LiveOps, provide attractive benefits, including 401K.
One thing that’s really nice is they pay by the hour, not the duration of the call, so you’re guaranteed to get paid throughout your entire shift no matter what. Most companies pay per minute.
LiveOps is one of the leading virtual call center companies in the United States. The company currently has over 25,000 agents answering calls and selling insurance.
Live Ops does not hire employees. Instead, you work as an independent contractor and agree to a six month contract with the company. This also means that income taxes must be paid on your behalf because they won’t be deducted from your income automatically.
West At Home is part of the West Corporation, which is one of the largest telecommute companies on the Internet, providing customer service jobs from home in the United States. The work at home job niche is often associated with scams and false claims, but West At Home does offer legitimate job opportunities that even come with discount medical and dental benefits.
Most work at home companies, such as LiveOps, hire independent contractors, not employees, which means you have to remember to set aside funds for taxes and there are no insurance benefits. However, West At Home hires employees and taxes are taken out of your check like a traditional job offline.
If you want to land a legitimate work at home medical billing job, you’ll need to be very careful in your job search because medical billing is one of the top work from home scams, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
While it is possible to work from home in this line of work, that is not the norm, except for those who are trained and experienced. Most medical billing professionals receive special training and work in hospitals and offices. A medical biller can seek employment with a practice or work as an independent contractor from home.
A medical billing professional is responsible for billing doctor’s patients and processing insurance claims. This article provides tips for finding real job opportunities for medical billing, coding or transcription.
Envelope stuffing is an old scam that won’t go away. In this scam, you fork over money for an envelope starter kit, but instead of receiving the envelopes, you get a set of instructions showing you how to start your own envelope stuffing business and rip other people off doing the same thing.
There are lots of awesome ways to work from home, but this definitely isn’t one of them. I highly recommend you avoid envelope stuffing jobs and consider the alternatives below.
If you are trying to find focus groups online that aren’t scams, you’ve probably found the site FindFocusGroups and wondered if it’s legitimate. FindFocusGroups is a safe site to use for locating paid focus groups in your area. You can search by state and each posting notes the amount you’ll be paid if you’re chosen to participate.
The site lists studies that pay $5 to $400 and greater, but most pay $75 to $100. I saw one worth $5,000. My only complaint is that a lot of the postings are out of date and expired. It could use a little updating.
