Demand Media Studios Dumps WCA Revenue Share

The original ehow WCP program for freelance writers has ended officially, as well as the newer Demand Media Studios WCA version of the old program. It was bad enough to terminate the WCP program, but now the demise of the WCA rev share option eliminates all new passive income opportunities with Demand Media.

I was never very impressed with the WCA (Writer Created Assignment) option, but I had started to contribute more passive income articles under that feature shortly before they canned it.

The upside is that Demand Media Studios is allowing freelance writers to continue earning passive income online from existing articles already published under the WCA feature. Judging by what has already happened to the WCP, I doubt the WCA earnings will continue for too long, but I only had 8 articles published under the Demand Studios program so it’s not a big loss for me.

Those 8 articles earned me a little over $12 in passive income last month. So far, I have earned $2.23 from those 8 articles this month. My final passive income ehow payment from the old WCP program was nearly $800, which was my highest monthly pay out ever since joining the program in 2009. I’m glad I didn’t submit hundreds of articles to the new Demand Media Studios rev share model. That really would have sucked.

The termination of both programs shows that it’s best to create and manage your own websites and blogs so you can control your income and avoid the risk of losing monthly cash flow. Even though it totally sucks that the ehow writers compensation program is gone, I’m very grateful and glad that I joined it because it was an excellent source of passive income while it lasted and writing articles for the old ehow taught me so much about SEO and how to make money online from keyword research and choosing clever article topics. If it wasn’t for the ehow writing experience, I’m not sure I would still be continuing to earn money online from passive income and freelance writing.

I am not aware of any other freelance writing sites where writers can submit content and earn the kind of passive income that ehow generated under the old program. I have used a couple other sites which are okay but nowhere close to ehow. Actually, Suite101 was probably very close to ehow earning potential, but right when I had started to earn a nice amount of passive income every month from it, Google made their big changes and the Suite101 article income tanked big time. My Suite101 passive income earning online went from about $200 per month to $25 per month. I don’t even check my earnings report anymore. As a result, Suite101, as well as most other “content farms” tightened their editorial standards big time, which is understandable, but it’s not worth the time to write on most of these sites anymore.

Since the closing of both ehow freelance writer programs, I have joined Triond and I actually don’t mind the site. I’m working on my own niche sites at the moment, but I will publish articles on Triond every now and then. Triond now allows writers to make money online by attaching Google Adsense to the Triond account after you write and publish 5 approved articles on the site.
